The IZW e.V. stands for the neutral and professionally communication of information in the Refrigeration and heat pump technology. The IZW is not a competitor to other organisations and associations in industry and trade, but your potential service provider. The recent strong increase in sales figures for heating pumps in the small residential building sector confirm the success of the diverse activities of the IZW.
An important task of the IZW e. V. is the coordination of research programs to optimize components, plants and systems.
The focus is on the economical and energy-efficient use of heat pumps in the renovation of old buildings, the area of application with by far the greatest potential for savings in primary energy and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

After the oil price crisis in the early 1970s, the “International Energy Agency” (IEA) was founded in 1974 as part of the “Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development” (OECD) with the aim of introducing an international energy program.
In 1982, the IEA passed the “Implementing Agreement for a Program of Research and Development on Advanced Heat Pump Systems”. An annex in this program was and still is the “Heat Pump Center” (HPC), which ensures an international exchange of information on this topic.
Since January 1st, 1990, the project “Information Center for Heat Pumps and Refrigeration Technology” (IZW) funded by the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (BMFT) has been in operation for the consistent continuation of the activities of the HPC in Germany within the Specialist Information Center in Karlsruhe.
His work was supported by the professional competence of an advisory group consisting of experts from the heat pump, refrigeration and air conditioning sectors as well as energy supply. After more than nine years, the project ended on March 31, 1999.
In order to be able to continue the successful work, the registered association “Information Center Heat Pumps and Refrigeration Technology”, IZW e. V. founded in Hanover. The long-term funding by the BMFT was gradually reduced and finally stopped in 2002. Since then, the society “IZW e.V.” has been financially supported solely by its members from industry, organisations and associations as well as individuals.
The diverse tasks are managed by the honorary board, an existing network (national and international), a small group of consultants and assistants. Due to the good cooperation with all organizations active in the field of heat pump and refrigeration technology, the IZW has a broad information base and diverse opportunities for cooperation nationally, in Europe, also in the USA and Japan.
